04 Apr Arabica Or Robasta?
When it comes to coffee, two of the most commonly known and consumed bean types are Robusta and Arabica. Arabica beans, which make up about 60–70% of the world’s coffee production, are prized for their smooth, nuanced flavour profiles. Grown primarily in higher altitudes, Arabica beans are more delicate and require cooler climates and careful cultivation, which is why they tend to be more expensive and highly regarded.
On the other hand, Robusta beans are typically grown at lower altitudes. They are heartier plants, more resistant to pests and disease, and yield more per harvest—making them a popular choice for commercial coffee blends and instant coffee. Robusta tends to have a stronger, more bitter flavour and contains significantly more caffeine than Arabica. While often considered less refined in taste, Robusta plays a vital role in espresso blends (ours included) for its crema-enhancing properties and bold punch.
